Clark McGinn is leaving CHC for Waypoint Leasing

Clark McGinn is leaving his role as managing director of CHC Leasing to head sales at Waypoint Leasing.

McGinn will be senior vice president at Waypoint and is returning to sales after three years running aviation finance for CHC, the world’s largest helicopter operator. McGinn helped launch its Dublin finance company, CHC Leasing and has overseen $2.5 billion in structured helicopter lease transactions since February 2011. He ran Royal Bank of Scotland’s Helicopter Finance Group before joining CHC. At the bank he closed helicopter transactions worth more than $2 billion.

“We continue to build out the Waypoint team with some of the industry’s most experienced and renowned professionals and are excited to welcome Clark as our newest member.”

“We continue to build out the Waypoint team with some of the industry’s most experienced and renowned professionals and are excited to welcome Clark as our newest member,” said Ed Washecka, CEO of Waypoint Leasing. “We look forward to leveraging Clark’s expertise and management skills as we continue to grow Waypoint’s position as the leading independent global helicopter lessor.”

McGinn was an enthusiastic user of operating leases at CHC. The operator has worked with all of the major lessors since Milestone launched in 2010. One operating lessor described CHC as “effectively an incubator for helicopter operating lessors.”

McGinn said: “Having worked closely with Ed Washecka and the Waypoint team since its inception, I know first-hand that Waypoint provides its customers with unparalleled, cost-effective and flexible solutions to finance their helicopter needs. This is an exciting opportunity and I am delighted to join Waypoint and work closely with the entire team to strengthen existing customer relationships and develop new ones, to continue building the premier helicopter lessor in our industry.”

Despite being a banker for more than 25 years, McGinn, who has a M.A. with Honours in Philosophy and a PhD in Scottish Literature from the University of Glasgow, has found time to write several books, particularly ones that focus on Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet. Some of his titled include ‘The Ultimate Burns Supper Book,’ ‘The Ultimate Guide to Being Scottish‘ and ‘Out of Pocket: How Collective Amnesia Lost the World its Wealth, Again,’ which covers financial crises. He has also been a key note speaker at Helicopter Investor conferences in London and Miami.

“What?! No! Are you absolutely sure?”

The move has surprised many in the helicopter market. “This is a great move for Clark and for Waypoint,” said a senior finance official at a major operator. The head of a rival leasing company was more surprised: “What?! No! Are you absolutely sure?”
