Starspeed and Quark Expeditions partner to manage helicopter services onboard new polar vessel, Ultramarine
Luxaviation Group’s helicopter management company Starspeed will be working with Quark Expeditions Inc., a Seattle-based Artic and Antarctic polar adventures operator beginning May 2021. The operations will be carried out using two twin-engine helicopters based onboard Quark Expeditions’ latest polar vessel, Ultramarine.
Starspeed will manage the aircraft and provide a crew of four pilots, two engineers as well as back-up crews. Helicopters will undertake a range of tasks in remote areas from sightseeing and adventure activities, to ice and wildlife reconnaissance and medical evacuation.
Charlotte Pedersen, CEO of Luxaviation Helicopters, said: “We are enthused to provide our helicopter management services to a company which has been the leading provider of polar adventure travel for three decades.”
Andrew White, President of Quark Expeditions, said: “Having a global leader in commercial helicopter operations as a partner will not only further increase our guests’ outstanding travel experience but it will also provide them with optimised travel security.”
Maritime Aviation, led by MD Jonathan Turner, oversaw the tender process for the helicopter operator selection. It continues to provide technical heliport consultancy to the project and will deliver heliport safety management and crew safety training for Ultramarine.
