AgustaWestland launches interior design competition for AW609

AgustaWestland has launched a new design competition for the interior of the AW609 Tiltrotor. Several design studio companies will compete to have their layout selected for a completely new interior configuration for the AW609 Tiltrotor aircraft. The winner of the competition will be announced in October this year.

The project follows the similar competition, which saw designers compete to develop an interior and exterior paint scheme for the new generation AW169 helicopter.

There are currently two AW609 aircraft taking part in the test flight programme, which have both logged around 1,200 hours. AgustaWestland is preparing to ramp up the test programme and a further two aircraft will be joining the certification testing. The plan is to gain the US FAA certification for the type in 2017.

AgustaWestland have almost 60 customers for the AW609 Tiltrotor, many of them are executive aircraft operators.
