Bell 430 Angola crash kills six

Chevron have confirmed a helicopter operated by Heli-Malongo has crashed en route to one of its oil platforms off the Angolan coast.

The helicopter was carrying five passengers as well as the pilot at the time of the accident. All six persons are known to have died.

Chevron have confirmed one of the passengers was an employee whilst the four others were contractors. Four of the people on board were confirmed to be Angolan, with the remaining two people’s nationality remaining unconfirmed.

The helicopter started its journey at Malongo port in Angola on Monday at 15.23 local time to fly out to the Tombua-Landana offshore oil platform but never arrived. Search and rescue operations involved 19 marine vessels and three helicopters.

Response crews have already begun searching for the cockpit data recorder and any aircraft debris.
