Bristow rescues five from Irish fishing boat

A search team operated by Bristow Helicopters successfully rescued five fishermen from the Iuda Naofa, an Irish fishing vessel, which started to sink around 48 miles north of the Isle of Lewis, which is located in the Outer Hebrides.

Two of the crew members were transferred onto nearby fishing vessel and the other three were lifted into the helicopter and taking to hospital, where they were being treated for mild hypothermia.

“The weather conditions on scene were very rough seas with southerly force 6 winds, evacuating the five crew swiftly and safely before the vessel went down was a great achievement,” said Paul Tunstall, coastguard duty watch manager.

Bristow, which provides search and rescue services on behalf of the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency, released a video of the dramatic rescue:
