Pre-owned twin-engine helicopter sales fall 17%: Aero Asset
Pre-owned twin-engine helicopter retail sales fell by 17% in the first six months of this year compared with the first half of 2021, according to Aero Asset’s 2022 Half-Year Heli Market Trends report.
Twin-engine retail sales volume dropped to 73 units in the first six months of 2022, while retail sales volume dropped by 30%. But, despite fewer deals, dollar volume rose by 12% to $264m.
The absorption rate improved to 12 months year-over-year and remained stable compared to the previous semester, said Valerie Pereira, vice president of Market Research, Aero Asset. “The number of deals pending at various stages of transaction increased 20% in the second quarter of 2022 compared with the second quarter of 2021,” Pereira added.
Supply for sale continued to dip in all asset classes during the first six months of 2022. Light and medium twin-engine retail sales volume fell by nearly 20% year-on-year. But heavy helicopter retail sales volume climbed.
The best performing pre-owned twin-engine helicopter was the Airbus EC/H145, followed by the Leonardo AW139 and the Airbus EC/H135. Two twin-engine models – the S-76D and AW169 – saw no pre-owned retail sales over the first six months of this year.
North American and European sales volume accounted for 75% of total transactions. Europe was the only region to achieve rising sales volumes. Sales volume of VIP and utility configurations fell by 25% year-on-year, while sales of EMS configured twins increased. Read the report here.
