Heli-One hires Colin Smith as head of Growth and Strategy

Helicopter maintenance and support services company Heli-One has appointed former US Navy helicopter pilot Colin Smith to the role of  head of Growth and Strategy. Smith will be responsible for developing and executing Heli-One’s business strategy to bring products to market, support customers and plan business growth.

Miguel Carrasco, president, Heli-One said: “Colin joins us at an exciting time as we continue to execute on our growth strategy. The $42 billion maintenance services and MRO helicopter market is expanding and demand for support services is growing rapidly.  Colin’s wealth of industry, aviation, and military experience will be invaluable as we respond to increased demand and work closely with our customers to support their continued success. We are delighted to welcome Colin onboard.”

Smith has more than 30 years of aerospace and defence experience, including time as a U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, test pilot and maintenance officer. After leaving the military, Smith worked for Bell Helicopter and Hendsoldt, leading business development and programme management. He has a bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, a master’s degree in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the US Naval War College. He also gained an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School Of Business.

Smith said: “I am delighted to take up this opportunity at Heli-One to lead the execution of our growth strategy. My focus will be on anticipating the market and responding to the customer requirements with innovative maintenance solutions that will optimise their aircraft availability and mission performance.”
