Bell 525 simulator receives FAA qualification

The Bell 525 Simulator has received FAA qualification.
Bell Textron revealed at this week’s European Rotors event in Germany that the Bell 525 Flight Simulation training device at the Bell Training Academy has received Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) Flight Simulation Interim Level C Training Device qualification.
The training device was designed and manufactured by Bell Textron affiliate TRU Simulation + Training. This new milestone will enable Bell pilots to earn flight hours on the Bell 525 platform ahead of type certification.
“This milestone is a great step toward preparing our teams for future operations with the Bell 525 and future pilots for type rating,” said Mike Deslatte, the manufacturer’s senior vice president. “Now, our pilots can log Bell 525 flight hours and build on their aircraft knowledge from flight test operations.”
The simulator is equipped with high-fidelity visual systems, realistic cockpit environments and advanced motion platforms, these create an experience that mirrors actual flight conditions. The simulator is designed to offer pilots a realistic training experience, replicating the performance and handling characteristics of the 525 helicopters. The simulator means that pilots can train in a controlled and safe environment, allowing enhancement of their their skills and readiness for real-world operations.
The first order for the 525 came from oil and gas giant Equinor in March 2024 when it booked for 10 aircraft. The helicopter was launched at Heli-Expo 2012 in Dallas and completed its maiden flight on July 1st, 2015. The manufacturer is still working towards FAA certification and the global pandemic has caused significant delays.
Meanwhile, the OEM also disclosed at the show that it had signed a purchase agreement for three additional 505s with support from its Bell 505 dealer, Rheinland Air Service. “Bell is very pleased to support Heli Transair as they add three additional Bell aircraft to advance their utility fleet,” said Robin Wendling, the manufacturer’s Europe MD.
