A new, as yet unnamed, operator has been appointed to conduct the UK Penzance Helicopters services to the Isles of Scilly off the UK’s south west coast. The new operator will take over from current operator Sloane Helicopters this November.

The service flies between between Penzance and the islands of Tresco and St Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly all year. Flights have been operated by Sloane Helicopters since the service was launched in March 2020. The 15-minute flight to the islands from a purpose-built heliport on the outskirts of Penzance takes place six days a week.

Jeremy Awenat, MD Sloane Helicopters, said: “We are proud to have been the launch operator of this new service for the visitors and residents of the Isles of Scilly. We look forward to working closely with the new operator to ensure a seamless transition for our passengers and staff, and we wish them continued success on this important service.”

Since its launch, the service has carried more than 50,000 passengers between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly. Sloane is already working with the new operator, whose name will be revealed shortly, to ensure a seamless transition for passengers and staff.

The Penzance Helicopter service, managed in partnership with Penzance Heliport and Tresco Estate, operates a Leonardo AW139 helicopter. “It’s a helicopter brand that we know inside and out having sold over 75 new, whilst also providing the maintenance for one of the largest commercial fleets in Europe,” according to a statement from Sloane Helicopters.
