Safran opens new heli engine service hub in Germany

Safran Helicopter Engines is growing its presence in the European market with the official opening of a new facility in Northern Germany focusing on servicing and maintaining engines.

The new 3,000sqm hub in Norderstedt, near Hamburg in Northern Germany provides clients with a range of support services for Arrius, Arriel and RTM322 engines, Together with local maintenance, the facility offers spare parts storage capacity and 24/7 availability.

The launch of the site is essential for delivering the highest standard of proximity service and customer support in the region, said Cédric Goubet, CEO of Safran Helicopter Engines.  “The opening of this facility is a direct response to the strong growth in both the civil and military helicopter markets in Europe,” he added. “It also strengthens German sovereignty by enhancing local expertise, particularly with the introduction of new helicopters into the German armed forces.”

About 50% larger than the previous site, the facility aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations through initiatives such as photovoltaic panels, a green roof to absorb CO₂ and energy-efficient systems. These include heat pumps and ventilation with heat recovery.

Safran Helicopter Engines has been established in Germany for 35 years and provides in-service support to 300 helicopter operators Northern, Eastern and Central Europe. Its services cover a fleet of 2,300 engines. The manufacturers engines power a significant portion of the civil helicopter market including Airbus, Bell and Leonardo models.

The new facility now employs 80 people and was built with the support of development company EGNO and the town of Norderstedt. Worldwide the engine manufacturer employs more than 110,000 people and has a revenue of 31.3bn last year.
