Airbus Helicopters and the Republic of Armenia have agreed a contract for the purchase of six multi-purpose H145 helicopters to be deployed on transport missions.

The deal, designed to modernise the country’s rotorcraft capabilities, is the country’s first contract with Airbus Helicopters.

The H145’s high performance, particularly in high-altitude and hot environments, makes it an ideal fit for Armenia’s diverse and mountainous geography, according to the manufacturer. The five-bladed version of the H145 provides increased payload and is said to deliver a smoother flight experience, and a simplified maintenance regime.

This first contract revealed the growing partnership between Airbus Helicopters and Armenia, said Ludovic Boistot, the OEM’s vice president, head of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Caucasus. “The H145 is a proven workhorse that will provide the Armenian authorities with the flexibility and reliability needed for their most demanding transport mission requirements. We look forward to a long-lasting and fruitful collaboration as we develop our partnership in the coming years,” he said.

The sale, for an undisclosed price, was finalised during the official state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to the Armenian capital of Yerevan.

Meanwhile, more than 1,800 H145 helicopters are in service and have logged over 8.5 million flight hours. Powered by two Safran Arriel 2E engines, the H145 is equipped with digital engine control (FADEC) and the Helionix digital avionics suite.
