Voom launches in Mexico City

Airbus’s on-demand air-taxi service Voom is now offering on-demand helicopter commutes across Mexico City.

The service allows commuters to request seats on a helicopter flights across the city through an app on their phone, avoiding the rush-hour traffic. Voom launched in São Paulo in 2016 and extended its flights outside of the city to Alphaville. Mexico City is the second city the service has launched in.

Voom will fly routes between Toluca Airport, Montes Urales, Interlomas and Mexico International Airport between 7:30am and 6:30pm Monday through Friday. Riders can book flights up to 60 minutes before the flight and up to seven days in advance.

Mexico City is one of the world’s most-congested cities, with a population of 23.9 million. The city has a significant helicopter infrastructure in place – with more than 200 helipads throughout the city.

Airbus also partnered with on-demand flight company Blade that flies 22 core routes across the US. The service was assimilated into Airbus’s operations to support its future air taxi. The partnership complemented the Voom partnership, expanding the network for its upcoming eVTOL service.
