Blade India will take delivery of five new Airbus H125 helicopters to expand its on-demand helicopter services.

The helicopters will be leased to operators by a GIFT-City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City)-based leasing company.

Amit Dutta, MD, Blade India, said: “Blade India is delighted to announce the expansion of its services and network by selecting the H125. We are fortunate to have excellent support from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, India, which recently announced sweeping policy changes to accelerate the growth of the vertical lift industry.’’ Short-haul air mobility is poised to be the next big area of growth for the Indian economy, he added.

New York-based Blade launched in India in 2019, with a primary focus on cutting time spent in traffic. Operations began using existing pay per seat operators in states such as Maharashtra and more recently Karnataka.

Sunny Guglani, head of Airbus Helicopters for India and South Asia, said: “Helicopter operations in urban environments are an essential building block for the development of new services such as Emergency Medical Services [EMS], tourism, and air taxis for efficient mobility.” Guglani added that these services will pave the way for urban air mobility services.
