Wing has launched a new drone delivery service in Melbourne, Australia.

Wing has rolled out its drone delivery service to Melbourne, Australia with the help of DoorDash.

From this week about 250,000 residents in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs will be able to order small goods from the Eastland Shopping Centre via the DoorDash app.

The network expansion makes Melbourne the largest metropolitan area in Australia where Wing drone delivery is available. The company has now been commercially operating in Australia for the past five years facilitating the delivery of packages less than 1.5kg in weight.

The rollout in Melbourne is supported by updated regulatory approvals Wing has received from the Australian government. These changes allow a single pilot to oversee up to 50 drones in the air at any given time, an increase of over three times versus Wing’s prior approvals.

“This increase was achieved by demonstrating the safety of our aircraft, our system, and our operations, while delivering directly to homes over the past 5 years in Australia,” said Margaret Nagle, head of Policy, Regulatory and Community Affairs at Wing.

“This expansion marks significant growth into major metro cities, allowing for hundreds of thousands more people, and dozens of new merchants, to have access to drone delivery in Australia through DoorDash. 2024 is the year of drone delivery,” added Nagle.
