Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy is to offer AW139 sim training from next year.

Helicopter training specialist Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy has revealed the certification of its new AW139 full-flight simulator. Certified by the Danish Transport Authority (Trafikstyrelsen), the simulator will be available for advanced training from early 2025.

The certification is a significant milestone for Atlantic Airways and its Aviation Academy, said CEO Jóhanna á Bergi. Hans Erik Jakobsen, head of Training added: “We are thrilled to finally offer our customers a cutting-edge training experience in our brand-new simulator, further enhancing their operational skills in AW139 helicopter operations.”

Using the latest technology, the Thales simulator supports various type ratings and search and rescue (SAR) scenarios. These include hoist operations, offshore procedures and challenging weather conditions to ensure pilots are prepared for practical challenges.

The academy also offers hoist training with a custom-made hoist trainer capable of working with the crew in the AW139 simulator.

Founded and operated by Atlantic Airways in 2022, Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy is located in the Danish territory of the Faroe Islands. The operator has flown helicopters since 1994 for scheduled passenger flights and since 2001, helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS), SAR and hoist operations. The company has operated exclusively Leonardo AW139 helicopters for the past eight years.
