Avincis wins long-term contract to continue HEMS in Sweden

Avincis will deploy H145s to service its new HEMS contract in Stockholm.
Emergency aerial services provider Avincis has won a new long-term contract to deliver helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) in Stockholm, Sweden. The nine-year agreement builds on a partnership that has been in place since 2001 to provide aeromedical support for the population of Stockholm County.
To service the contract, Avincis will operate two Airbus five-bladed H145 helicopters, with one aircraft available 24 hours a day and one operating 12 hours a day, providing rapid aeromedical response across the region.
“Avincis is honoured to continue serving the people of Stockholm with world-class helicopter emergency medical services,” said John Boag, group CEO, Avincis. “Our team has proudly supported this community for more than two decades, and this new contract reflects our commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and highly specialised aviation support when it matters most.”
The Stockholm HEMS programme is said to be one of the busiest and most complex in the Nordic region. Every year the programme completes 3,500–4,500 missions and logs 2,000–2,500 flying hours. The operator said the service enables fast, safe transport for critically ill or injured patients across a wide variety of operational environments including dense urban areas and forests to the outer archipelago.
“The mission model also supports the capability to respond to incidents onboard ships, and to manage time-critical emergencies requiring rapid mobilisation and high operational readiness,” said Avincis.
The largest provider of emergency aerial services in Europe – with operations in Africa and South America – Avincis operates a fleet of about 210 aircraft including around 170 helicopters and 40 aeroplanes.
Meanwhile, last month Avincis revealed it had signed a contract with Airbus Helicopters for up to 15 H145s. The aircraft will be deployed across the Nordic region, Italy and Spain for HEMS missions and offshore transport. Speaking at the time, Boag said: “The H145 is the ideal platform for our mission-critical operations, providing the reliability and performance required to save lives and protect communities in the most challenging environments.”
