Helicopters were used for six missions during the course of the Lunar New Year’s Eve, which happened on February 18 this year.

All missions were carried out to monitor large scale fireworks displays at public places.

Live images were sent from the helicopter to ground monitoring stations, where police operatives assessed any danger to the public that the celebrations could cause. The helicopter flights all departed from a police air-base in Changping, to the north west of Beijing.

The six missions were split into three separate groups, with one mission heading to the east of Beijing, one heading south, and the last flying to the west. The Beijing Municipal Public Security Police Air Corps has now flown helicopter missions on lunar new years eve for the last six years.
