Tokyo MPD becomes first Japanese H215 operator

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has signed an agreement to purchase one H215, becoming the first H215 operator in Japan.

The rotorcraft will be delivered in time for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, joining MPDs  fleet of 14 helicopters.

The H215 will be used for day-today patrol and rescue missions across Tokyo. For the Summer Olympics, it will operate personnel and VIP transportation, material transport, wide area support missions.

Olivier Tillier, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters Japan said: “We are honoured by the Metropolitan Police Department’s renewed confidence in us with this new order of the H215, and especially delighted that this highly efficient helicopter will join the rest of Airbus’ helicopters in supporting one of the world’s largest police air corps.
