Gwinnett County Police orders new MD 530Fs
Georgia Gwinnet County Police Department has purchased a new MD 530F to replace one of its two helicopters that was involved in an accident last year.
The helicopter crashed during a storm in September, injuring the two pilots.
The new MD 530F is configured with a Rolls-Royce 250-C30 engine, an extended tail boom, longer main-rotor blades and an all-glass cockpit. The law enforcement mission interior will be fitted by Rotor Resources, a Georgia-based MD helicopter service centre.
Andy Pillado, vice president of commercial and military sales for MD Helicopters, Inc, said: “A proven and reliable platform for law enforcement aviation units worldwide, the MD 530F delivers optimised operational capabilities and greater mission versatility than other aircraft in its class.
“We are proud to have been Gwinnett County’s platform-of-choice for nearly 30 years, and are honored that the Gwinnett County team has chosen to welcome another MDHI aircraft to their family.”
The county police’s aviation unit has flown MD 500 series helicopters since the mid 1980s.
