Helicopter Investor’s publisher, Specialist Insight, has received a commemorative bowl in recognition of its Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade 2019.

Making the presentation at Specialist Insight’s head office in Reigate, Surrey, UK, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, praised the company’s contribution to export growth.

“Only 201 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise were made last year and there were only 40 in South East England,” More-Molyneux told the Specialist Insight team and invited guests. “You are a star turn. I am staggered by the products you are producing and the places you are going. I congratulate you on producing a product that is wanted throughout the world.”

‘You are a star turn’

Launched from a garden shed in 2010, Specialist Insight employs more than 15 people, under the leadership of co-founder and MD Louisa Whyte and co-founder and editor-in-chief Alasdair Whyte. “We are delighted, if a little shocked, to have been chosen,” says Louisa. “We are a small company. When we launched in 2010, we never expected to be recognised like this.”

The company delivers independent news and analysis for investors focusing on the fast-moving markets for business jets, helicopters, superyachts and private art as well as the future of flight. It runs conferences and events in London, Dubai, Geneva, Singapore, Dorking, Miami and San Francisco.

Flagship digital products include Corporate Jet Investor, Helicopter Investor, Superyacht Investor, Private Art Investor and Revolution.Aero. The company’s print portfolio includes Corporate Jet Investor Quarterly and The Official Guide to Aircraft Registration.

The US is the biggest business jet market in the world – accounting for about 70% of the total fleet. It is also Specialist Insight’s biggest single export market followed by Switzerland, Canada, Malta and France.

Growing exports by 550% over six years

The award winners, which are personally approved by Her Majesty the Queen, include innovative companies of all sizes. Specialist Insight received the award for consistently growing exports by 550% over six years. Sales and profits have grown every year since launch and overseas sales account for 85% of total sales.

The company has paying customers in almost 50 different countries. Last year, international sales accounted for 85% of the business.

Reflecting the global nature of Specialist Insight’s business, the team is drawn from five countries – and UK, South Africa, Romania, Poland and India – and speaks nine different languages.
