Starspeed, Luxaviation Group’s corporate VIP helicopter company, has won the contract to operate Penzance Helicopters’ service to the Isles of Scilly, off the UK’s south west coast.

The year-round 15-minute helicopter flights from Penzance Heliport to the islands of Tresco and St Mary’s take place six days a week. Since its launch, the service has carried more than 50,000 passengers between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly. Starspeed will take over the service in November 2022 and replace the current operator Sloane Helicopters.

Simon Mitchell, MD, Starspeed said: “We’re extremely proud to bring our resources, knowledge and experience to this important route between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly. Our unrivalled reputation for safety, service and individual attention – as well as our professional and friendly culture – will help grow Penzance Helicopters to the benefit of the whole Isles of Scilly community.”

Robert Dorrien-Smith of Penzance Heliport welcomed the new operator for Penzance Helicopters. “With their knowledge, expertise and attitude, we will deliver on our ambition to enhance the resilience, reliability and capacity of travel to the Isles of Scilly for visitors and islanders alike,” he said.

Starspeed was launched in 1978 and claims to be the largest, privately owned, corporate VIP helicopter company in Europe. The company has operated over 22 helicopter types and models across more than 65 countries and over 10 superyachts.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Awenat, MD Sloane Helicopters, said: “We are proud to have been the launch operator of this new service for the visitors and residents of the Isles of Scilly. We look forward to working closely with the new operator to ensure a seamless transition for our passengers and staff, and we wish them continued success on this important service.”
