Japanese operator Toho Air agrees deal for an AW139

Toho Air Service
Tokyo-based operator Toho Air Service has agreed a deal for an additional Leonardo AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopter for its Tokyo-Ai land shuttle services. The aircraft is scheduled for delivery next year.
The AW139 will deliver greater capabilities in terms of navigation, cabin space and comfort, safety standards, sustainability and maintenance approach enhancing the level of service provided to Toho Air’s customers, according to the operator.
The contract signing took place as Leonardo and Toho Air owner Mitsui Bussan Aerospace celebrate 20 years of partnership in the Japanese helicopter market. The partnership followed the introduction of the AW139 in Japan.
Launched 60 years ago, Toho Air, headquartered in Tokyo operates a commuter helicopter service linking together the six major Izu islands off the main island’s south and east coast.
AW139s are used by a number of operators in Japan for a wide range of roles. These include: passenger transport, law enforcement, search and rescue, medevac, disaster relief, firefighting and electronic newsgathering.
Leonardo reports that more than 1,400 AW139 units are on order with over 1,200 aircraft already in service. The model has logged more than 4m flight hours logged in service with over 300 operators worldwide.
Meanwhile, earlier this month Leonardo signed a strategic supplier agreement with PHI MRO Services.
