Omni Helicopters’ firm, Omni Táxi Aéreo has won a new contract from energy firm Equinor Brazil to support offshore operations in the Santos Basin. The contract will supplied with two super-medium aircraft, including one Leonardo AW189 and an Airbus H175, and one heavy helicopter, a Sikorsky S92.
Flights will be conducted from Omni Táxi Aéreo’s base at Jacarepaguá Airport in Rio de Janeiro. Currently under development, the Santos Basin will host one of the largest floating production storage and offloading (FPSOs) units in the world. Production capacity at the Bacalhau field, is estimated at up to 220,000 barrels of oil per day.
Décio Galvão, commercial director, Omni Táxi Aéreo said: “The inclusion of such prestigious client as Equinor, well known worldwide for their safety standards, is a recognition of our teams’ commitment to constantly improving procedures and increasing the safety and quality standards of our services.”
Commenting on super-medium aircraft, Galvão said they were recognised for their modernity, comfort and efficiency, offering a 25% cut in CO2 emissions compared with larger helicopters. Omni is said to be the only company in Brazil operating the AW189 and H175 models.
In addition to serving offshore clients in oil and gas and energy markets, Omni Táxi Aéreo also offers emergency medical services (EMS), fire fighting and search and rescue (SAR) missions. The company also provides specialised cargo transport services.
Meanwhile, in July Omni Helicopters completed the training of the company’s first Guyanese SAR rear aircrew class.

Omni Helicopters is deploying an S-92 and two super-medium helicopters to support the new contract.
