US medical firm Global Medical Response (GMR) has ordered 28 Airbus helicopters. The order – which includes six H125s, five H130s, 14 H135s and three H145s – follows a deal to take five Airbus helicopters earlier in the year.

Following the order, GMR is expected be among the first in North America to operate IFR-capable H125 helicopters. The order takes the company’s fleet of Airbus helicopters to nearly 200 aircraft.

GMR also has options to purchase an additional 23 new Airbus helicopters over the next three years.

Daniel Sweeza, national president of Air Operations, GMR said the company understood the critical impact air ambulances have in delivering rapid, lifesaving support. “Our investment in Airbus helicopters strengthens our ability to deliver life-saving healthcare where care is needed the most,” said Sweeza. “This expansion underscores our unwavering commitment to accessible, advanced care – ensuring that, regardless of where patients are, we can be there to make a difference when every second matters.”

Bart Reijnen, head of North America Region for Airbus Helicopters said the manufacturer was proud to continue supporting GMR as its teams deliver critical care to communities across the country. “These additions reinforce GMR’s commitment to providing high quality medical care, and we look forward to the positive impact the new helicopters will have on their operations,” said Reijnen,

The total value of the order was not disclosed.

The US medical firm operates a helicopter fleet of 380 helicopters, 122 fixed wing aircraft, 175 fire vehicles and more than 8,200 ground vehicles. GMR claimed 15.4m patient encounters last year. It operates 387 air base locations under brands including Air Evac Lifeteam, REACH Air Medical Services, Med-Trans Corporation, AirMed International and Guardian Flight. The firm has added more than 30 Airbus helicopters to its fleet since 2021.

Meanwhile, last week Airbus Helicopters reported flat growth in first nine months of 2024, with revenue inching up by a slight 5% year-over-year to €4.8bn ($5.2 bn) despite delivering fewer helicopters totalling 190 units.
