Omni Guyana’s new pilots complete stage one training

Ommi Helicopters Guyana has revealed two pilots have completed the first training phase of the country’s inaugural ab-initio helicopter pilot training scheme.
“This is an important milestone not only for Omni but also for Guyana’s aviation community,” said Duncan Moore, chief safety officer at Omni Helicopters International. “Their dedication and passion will inspire a new generation of Guyanese professionals, strengthening our vision of creating opportunities and building a strong national aviation team.”
Moore congratulated first two pilots – Somant Heeralall and Yadram Ramcharran – to qualify under the scheme. “We are proud to welcome Somant and Yadram as the nation’s first offshore pilots,” said Moore.
Their achievement was recognised during a ceremony at Kesi Adele Adams Memorial Heliport in Ogle, on the country’s Atlantic coast. represents the beginning of a new chapter for the nation’s aviation community. Both pilots trained for more than a year at a leading US flight school, have now earned their Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licenses with Instrument Ratings. “They are set to advance to the next stage of offshore helicopter training, paving the way for their future roles as Guyana’s first-ever offshore oil and gas helicopter pilots,” according to Omni.
The ceremony also celebrated the progress of Guyanese engineering apprentices and search and rescue (SAR) rear crew, which the company claimed was further proof of its commitment to nurturing local talent. Since launching operations in 2023, OHI has grown its Guyanese workforce to 65% of its total team.
