The Government of Queensland has signed an order for two additional AgustaWestland 139s, extending a previous order.

The three aircraft are expected to enter service by December 2018 and will perform emergency medical services (EMS) and Search and rescue (SAR) operations on and offshore.

The two additional helicopters will replace two older helicopter models as part of the government’s fleet modernisation program and help reduce further maintenance costs. These aircraft will join a fleet of three AW139s already in service.

Queensland Government Air (QGAir), a division of the Queensland Government’s Public Safety Business Agency will operate the aircraft.

Leonardo has signed orders for more than 120 helicopters in the Australian market. These helicopters are operating commercial, public utility and military services. There are 30 AW139s in service with various customers in Australia – making it the most successful EMS helicopter in the country over the last few years.
