NHV wins contract with Vestas for North Sea wind missions using H175s
NHV Group has won a multi-year contract with sustainable energy specialist Vestas for offshore wind operations in the North Sea using Airbus H175 super-medium helicopters.
Starting in April 2025, NHV will deploy the aircraft to provide dedicated crew changes and hoisting operations for the offshore wind industry. The deal makes NHV the first helicopter operator in the North Sea to support the offshore wind industry using the Airbus H175 for crew change and hoisting operations, according to the firm.
“This contract marks a pivotal moment for both NHV and the helicopter industry as it makes NHV the first operator to utilise both a super medium aircraft type and the H175 helicopter exclusively for long-term support in the offshore wind sector in the North Sea,” said the company.
The partnership with Vestas solidifies NHV’s position as a leader in the offshore wind market, said Bram De Backer, commercial and technical director, Business Unit Helicopter Services at NHV Group.
“With wind farms moving further offshore and turbines increasing in size, the demand for larger, more capable helicopters like the H175 is growing, and we are thrilled to be driving this transformation,” said De Backer. The H175 is ideally suited for long-range crew changes and hoisting operations, making it the perfect choice for the expanding offshore wind sector, he claimed.
NHV said its adoption of super-medium helicopters represents a new era in offshore wind logistics, positioning helicopters as key players in supporting the industry’s growth.
Regis Magnac, vice president, head of Energy, Leasing and Global Accounts at Airbus Helicopters welcomed the H175 contribution to energy transition history. “We are confident that the excellent range, payload, speed, comfort and safety of the H175 will help to streamline and secure operations at offshore bases and wind turbines,” he said.
Last month NHV Group appointed Lars-Henrik Thorngreen as its new CEO, effective from Monday, November 18th, 2024.
